Step One

I see the garden that I want-in my mind's eye.  The planning and details to put that garden together is the challenge for me.  Moving from dream to reality is in the details.   So this year I am laying my garden out on paper first so the garden I dream of... will come to be.  So let the learning process begin.

Step One:  Dream & Vision

A quiet place of refuge and retreat where my family can rest and escape.
Natural plants and furniture that are simple and easy to maintain.
Native grasses and flowers, perennials, herbs and vegetables will grow.
Basic vegetables that will feed us and for storage.
Bird feeders and baths, pots, trellis and arbors tie it together.

Good Friday Potato

My Grandfather had a green thumb everyone would say.  My Mother's Dad.  He grew up on a farm in South Dakota and then went on to live in different places.  But he was always growing things.

He would bring things out to the ranch at different times-I remember giant "rocky  mountain oysters" from CO.  He brought me my first saddle!  My first horse too but we won't talk about that.   But I do remember the year that he though we needed to plant more potatoes and brought "tons" from Idaho and helped us plant rows and rows.  To say that we had potatoes growing out our ears was an understatement.

He always taught my mom to plant potatoes on Good Friday. So this year is the year I'm going to try potatoes.  I'm thinking about a few at home and experiment with a few sod potatoes.

Footstep Garden

This is a dream.  A heart's cry.  I want to learn to follow my Grandmothers and Mothers footsteps.
